After corresponding internationally with several herpetologists, for whose input I am most grateful, this snake has been identified as Meizodon regularis, a back-fanged forest species. It has been stated, however, that the taxonomic separation of M. coronatus and regularis is not satisfactory. This specimen was found on the University of Ibadan campus, Nigeria, in May 1967; it is a young snake, hence the conspicuous markings with their strong colour contrasts.
