The carpet viper (Echis carinatus) is another rather small viper, probably not exceeding 3 feet in length. It is found in drier areas north of the forest zone and its venomous bite is particularly dangerous. This snake has strongly keeled scales and is also known as the saw-scaled viper. This specimen was brought from northern Nigeria, but the precise location was unknown. 1965.
