It wasn’t until the early 1970s that funds became available for a new reptile house. After consultations with the University’s Chief Engineer and his colleagues, we agreed that we could kill two birds with one stone by partly demolishing the unwanted old zoo building above and reconstructing it to meet the special requirements of a reptile house.
